HER LEGACY LIVES ON...

Last week my grandmother passed away in the Philippines. She was 89 years old. When my sister called me that morning to tell me that she wasn't going to make it passed the hour, I took it hard and thought about all the times I shared with her. My siblings and I weren't as lucky to have my Mama Letty around growing up, thats why we looked forward to seeing her when she would come visit us or when we would visit her. She was full of energy, always wanted to go out walking, walking for hours downtown SF and walking for hours in the streets of New York. Even when we ate dinner, she would be pacing around the house, I swear she had more energy then I did. She was a mother to 11 children, had 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. I can't imagine trying to raise 1 child now let alone 11! But she did, and she did a great job. Her and my Papa Dad made a great team. I am lucky enough to say that I knew my grandmother and had a chance to spend a significant amount of time with her. She would talk to me in illocano and I would try to act like I understood what she was saying and she would playfully hit me and repeat herself in english. My latest memory of her was when we went to the Philippines in 2005 for her 85th birthday I believe and we performed a tinikling routine for her. She had one of those smiles that would brighten up a room. She was the definition of beauty. Very graceful, loving and steezy! Haha, I think I got part of my steeze from her. lol. But in all seriousness, she will be missed dearly, but with her 11 children, 20 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her legacy lives on...
